About Us

At Rancho Cienega Tennis Shop, our story is deeply rooted in the visionary legacy of Coach Richard P. Williams, who serves as head tennis pro and coach since 1976. Alongside his brother Fred, Coach  Williams founded the California Tennis Association for Underprivileged Youth (CTAUY) in 1971, transforming tennis into a powerful tool for empowerment and opportunity in South Los Angeles. For over 50 years, their programs have introduced the sport to thousands of inner-city youths, producing more than 1,000 skilled players and 10 professional coaches who have gone on to successful careers as educators, doctors, lawyer and entrepreneurs.

Coach Richard P. Williams impact extends far beyond the courts. He provided foundational lessons to Richard Williams Jr. (father of tennis legends Venus and Serena) during classes at Southwestern College, instilling the basics that helped shape the Williams sisters' early training at our facility.

Today Rancho Cienega Tennis Shop offers top-tier programs for youth and adults alike: one-on-one coaching, group lessons and tournaments. Whether you're a beginner building fundamentals or an advanced player refining your game, join us to experience the same transformative spirit that has defined our shop since 1980.
